How to setup Financial Reporting and SmartView for a Hyperion Planning ASO Plan Type

Advantages of ASO Plan Types:

1. Shared Metadata between Planning application and Reporting application

2. Shared Security between Planning application and Reporting application. This can be both an advantage disadvantage. The advantage is a simplified security process. The disadvantage is you can’t have a separate security model for planning and reporting application.

Part 1: Setup Financial Reporting for a Hyperion Planning ASO Plan Type

Ensure you setup the FR Connection as a Planning connection and not an Essbase connection.

1.1 When in the Explore tab select Database Connection Manager.

1.2 Select the “New” button to create a new connection

1.3 When filling in the information in the “Database Connection Properties” make sure you select “Planning” and NOT “Essbase”.

Part 2: Setup SmartView for a Hyperion Planning ASO Plan Type

2.1 When you sign into SmartView make sure you select “Oracle Hyperion Planning, Fusion Edition” in the drop down and NOT “Oracle Essbase”.

2.2 After selecting Planning you should be able to see all the plan types available. Select the ASO plan type and then select “Ad Hoc Analysis”. You can now connect to the ASO Plan Type using SmartView.

Note: the ASO Plan Type will not be available if select Essbase (unless you are an admin on the system).
